Co-owner Amanda Staveley has reassured Newcastle United fans that their owners will not be buying another Premier League team.

Reports have surfaced in the British media in recent months that a Saudi consortium may bid for either Manchester United or Liverpool.

However, Staveley does not believe that the Public Investment Fund, which owns Newcastle, will bother with another team in England.

Speaking at the Financial Times' Business of Football Summit, Staveley stated: "We didn't go for the wonderful Tottenham, Chelsea or Liverpool because why spend billions?"

On Man United, Staveley said: "I don't think so."

She added: "We're doing everything we can to grow our commercial revenue. We inherited very difficult contracts from Fun88 which were very much one way.

"We were limited as to how we could drive the financial revenues. We have had to be prudent because we would have hit our FFP buffers much quicker than other clubs. We have an FFP budget and we stick to that. We can't afford to have a dud player."
