Newcastle United legend John Anderson believes the club must continue to trust the process.

The Magpies have made a big money move in securing Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

While they are linked to other players as they seek to improve their first team and depth, Anderson hopes they do not spend excessively in the market.

Anderson told Chronicle Live: "There's no doubt about it, it's going to be different next season. You've got extra games and extra traveling.

"You are playing three games a week and with the way we play and the intensity you need a squad. Have we got a squad with depth?

"Have we got a squad that will cope with that? You'd probably say not at this moment because you are relying heavily on 14 or 15 players based on last year.

"And in order to compete on all fronts, the two cup competitions and the Champions League and obviously the Premier League you need depth. That doesn't happen overnight.

"But you've got to trust in what they are doing. The one thing you'd say up to now is that all the transfers they've brought in they've got them right.

"Not only have they brought in quality players but they've brought in good characters. They have brought in good work ethic and people that have bought into what they have already done.

"So, we just have to trust the process. Up to now that process has been spot on and hopefully that continues to be the case."
