Newcastle legend Lee Clark says Aleksandar Mitrovic wasn't played to his strengths on Tyneside.
The Serb has been superb for Fulham this season.
Clark told Chronicle Live: "I personally think we used him in the wrong way. We had a young player who was prepared to do anything that was asked of him. He was six-foot plus and very aggressive, and I think we just used him as someone to play longer passes to in the air, and let him fight and scrap for it.
"What you've seen since he's gone to Fulham under Slavisa Jokanovic and now Marco Silva is a player who likes to play the ball on the floor. He likes to get involved in the build-up play, one and two touches getting the ball out wide and then he can be aggressive attacking the crosses.
"We used him as a bit of a battering ram more than we should have really. We just saw him as an easy outlet to play a longer ball to and let him fight it out with defenders.
"Every time he's played in the Championship he's smashed goals in for fun - but this season he's hit the ground running for both club and country. He's looked a real Premier League striker."
