Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer felt Sandro Tonali's debut for the club was as good as it could be.
The Magpies gave a competitive debut to their summer midfield signing from AC Milan.
Tonali scored in the team's 5-1 thumping of fellow European place challengers Aston Villa.
Speaking on Match of the Day, legendary striker Shearer said: "There were some impressive performances at St James' Park from Newcastle players. I thought (Anthony) Gordon was superb, Isak was magnificent, Harvey Barnes on his debut when he came on with a goal and an assist, but the star of the show was Tonali.
"As debuts go, this was as good as it gets. It was the perfect midfield performance. A goal, assists, tackles, a great range of passing, late runs into the box, the timing was perfect, getting stuck in.
"He really was superb. How to endear yourself to the Geordie public with a performance like this? He played his part in almost everything."
