Newcastle United's owners have upset the club's supporters over a comment about the atmosphere at St. James' Park.

The Magpies have been owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund for close to two years.

Co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi stated we need to be louder" after a home win over Chelsea at the weekend, while billionaire Jamie Ruben, also a 10 percent stake holder, wanted fans to maintain intensity.

Ghodoussi wrote on X: What a team #nufc We need to give these guys more support in the stadium, we need to be louder, we need to be the 12th man. #HWTL."

Reuben wrote:" @ghodoussi what a team and yes we need to match the intensity of the players with our support."
