A group of activists have “renamed” several iconic London Underground stations as the UK struggled through a record-breaking heatwave with highs of 37C.
Greenpeace protesters turned Baker Street into “Baking Street”, London Bridge into “London’s Burning” and Tottenham Court Road into “Hottenham Court Road”.
Footage released by the charity shows demonstrators switching up the names, as well as placing stickers reading: “Heatwave: Sponsored by Shell” below the new signs.
Schools were closed, travel was severely disrupted, and several hospitals declared critical incidents during the heatwave, which experts have said is not a “one-off”.
