In the past week, headlines were made after a Russian based daredevil couple posted pictures of them on top of the Merdeka 118 tower as well as even showing the process on how they were able to do so.
Following the backlash they received, police have started investigations into the couple and there have been reports that the Russian couple may have allegedly entered Malaysia illegally as there are no records of their entry in the Immigration Department.
Despite the backlash they have received, it appears that some communities have been in support for them. A non-fungible token (NFT) of an image of the couple on the tower recently sold for 7.69 Ethereum. Based on current Coinbase conversion rates, that is equivalent to approximately RM42,859.
This was shared by the woman who climbed the tower, who expressed her joy over the support and love she received for her NFT.

However, it appears that the backlash has not ended and has continued on as plenty of netizens took to the comments section of her post to criticise her and the NFT community for appearing to ‘encourage’ people to break laws in the name of art.
“Broke the law, left the country, and cheered with (a) US$10k sale. That’s what you’re encouraging.”
“Only in NFTs where breaking the law is encouraged and cheered,” commented another netizen.
Another user shamed her and those who supported her.
Despite the criticism she has faced, it appears that the majority of users were in support of her and congratulated her for her feat.
