PM Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim had a lot to say during the tabling of Budget 2024 on Friday (October 13). The budget, expectedly, involved a lot of money in an effort to improve Malaysians’ lives.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, Nga Kor Ming said that starting January 2024, the ministry will allocate up to RM110 million to renovate and rebuild 200 old markets in the country. Nga wants to see all markets in the country be user-friendly and to be modern and sustainable. He added that this will demonstrate the government’s determination to walk the talk.

However, he emphasized that all allocations are based on the performance of local governments.

“They must perform well, and show their capabilities up to the people’s satisfaction. This is fair and just to the 155 local governments across the country. We must ensure that every penny spent can benefit the people.”

Oriental Daily reported that Nga also pointed out that the new markets must meet the “double S” standards, namely smart and sustainable.

It’s about time for the old markets in the country to get a new “glow!”
