KUNAK: Pusat Pembangunan Minda Insan (PPMI) has offered to help the Government deal with social issues involving the Bajau Laut community.

PPMI, which was established 13 years ago and based in Kunak, has the concept of a community activity centre established and built by the community and operated by local community members with the guidance of the NGO Pertubuhan Himpunan Pasan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (Haluan).

PPMI is one of the bodies responsible for providing alternative education programs to the Bajau Laut or “sea gypsies”.

“The establishment of PPMI which was first based in Kampung Kabog, Jalan Kunak Tiga, here serves as an education centre that provides basic education facilities to the Bajau Laut and marginalised communities where these groups are left out of the national mainstream education programme,” said the PPMI Sabah Chief Coordinator Lajuliadi Lajahidi.
