The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Principal Bench, New Delhi, on Wednesday directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to investigate the alleged environmental violations by several restaurants operating in a residential area.

The order was passed after an application was filed by Rishi Jindal, alleging that several restaurants had installed chimneys of inadequate height and were causing air and noise pollution, adversely affecting residents of the locality.

The matter was heard by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, and Dr. Afroz Ahmad, Expert Member.

During the hearing, it was brought to the Tribunal’s notice that a complaint had already been filed before the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on April 14, 2026. Taking note of the allegations and supporting photographs placed on record, the Tribunal directed the Member Secretary, DPCC, to conduct ground verification and examine the complaint.

The NGT has instructed the DPCC to ascertain the correctness of the allegations and, if any violation of environmental norms is found, to take appropriate remedial and punitive action in accordance with law while following the principles of natural justice.

The Tribunal emphasised that the exercise should be completed expeditiously to ensure the protection of the environment and public health.

The original application has accordingly been disposed of with the above directions.
