In view of the possibility of disasters during the ongoing monsoon season, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has strengthened its surveillance and emergency response mechanisms to minimise disruptions and to ensure prompt traffic restoration in the event of any unforeseen event.
An official spokesperson of NHAI stated that adequate machinery, technical experts, field staff, and emergency response equipment have been strategically deployed at vulnerable locations across the state.
He said that, taking extensive measures to ensure safe, smooth, and uninterrupted traffic movement on National Highways in the state, the NHAI has identified vulnerable locations prone to landslides, slope collapses, debris accumulation, flooding, and other monsoon-related disasters, and mitigation measures have been implemented on a priority basis.
“NHAI has conducted detailed surveys of vulnerable and landslide-prone sections of the national highway network across the state. Based on these assessments, remedial work has been initiated at identified locations. Engineering measures have been implemented to enhance the resilience of highway infrastructure and mitigate the impact of extreme weather, including hillside protection, slope stabilisation, retaining walls, improved drainage systems, anti-erosion measures, and other safety measures,” he said.
“Special attention has been given to areas that were severely affected during the last monsoon season. Along with immediate mitigation measures, NHAI has also planned permanent solutions to ensure the long-term stability of these stretches, including the construction of bridges, protective structures, and other critical infrastructure,” he said.
The spokesperson further said that NHAI is working closely with the district administration, police, disaster management authorities and other relevant agencies to ensure a prompt response and effective management of any emergency.
The NHAI has advised people to immediately alert authorities by dialing the NH helpline number 1033 or by alerting the police and the district administration in case of any emergency situation.
