Political commentator Nick Adams confirms he will not take up the US ambassadorship to Malaysia, with his nomination having lapsed in the Senate.

KUALA LUMPUR: Political commentator Nick Adams will not become the next United States ambassador to Malaysia.

Adams confirmed to The Sydney Morning Herald that he would not take up the post, hinting instead at a new role to be announced soon.

“I’ve been promoted from the role of ambassador!” he told the news outlet in an email.

His nomination, made last July, was never confirmed by the US Senate and lapsed at the end of the year.

According to the US Congress website, his nomination was returned to the President in January under Senate rules.

Adams was absent from lists of diplomatic nominations resubmitted to the Senate in January and again this month.

In a social media post, Adams teased a “Major Announcement Coming!” without providing details.

“More details on that will come this upcoming week,” he said in a reply to the news outlet.
