The cliffhanger finale of Prime Video’s TV series Scarpetta has left viewers with plenty of unanswered questions and opened up several possible plotlines for season 2. From the mysterious figure at the door to Scarpetta’s uncertain future after losing her job, the stakes are higher than ever.
Based on the bestselling novels by Patricia Cornwell, Scarpetta stars Nicole Kidman in the titular role, alongside Jamie Lee Curtis as Kay Scarpetta’s sister, Dorothy, Simon Baker as Benton, Kay’s husband and an FBI agent, and Bobby Cannavale as former detective Pete Marino, who is married to Dorothy.
The Prime Video series follows two parallel narratives: one from Kay’s past, set in 1998, and the other in the present day as she returns to Virginia to once again serve as the state’s Chief Medical Examiner. In the 1990s timeline, the characters are portrayed by different actors: Rosy McEwen plays Kay, Amanda Righetti plays Dorothy, Jake Cannavale plays Pete, and Hunter Parrish plays Benton.
Aside from being a gripping crime drama, the TV series also explores themes of family and grief through flashbacks to the characters’ childhoods. With loose threads still unresolved in each character’s arc, Scarpetta season 2 has plenty of storylines left to explore.
When was Scarpetta season 2 confirmed?
Season 2 of Scarpetta was confirmed in 2024.
According to a 2024 report by Deadline, Prime Video ordered two seasons of the series when the streaming giant decided to adapt Cornwell’s novels for TV. With season 1 now officially concluded, fans can look forward to a second season in the future.

Do we know the plot of Scarpetta season 2?

And in the past, it’s a little bit later [than season 1], and then the present picks up where we left off.”

Scarpetta ends with the revelation that Officer Ryan (played by David Hornsby) is the copycat killer. After ambushing Kay in her home, he claims that he committed the murders as a tribute to her. During the struggle, he attacks Kay, who defends herself with a baseball bat. After Ryan falls down the stairs, Kay beats him to death just as someone opens the front door.
