Nigella Lawson makes first Great British Bake Off appearance in new trailer

A sneak preview released by Channel 4 has offered viewers a first look at Nigella Lawson making her debut on The Great British Bake Off alongside her new co-stars.

The TV cook, 66, was recently confirmed as a judge on the competition after Dame Prue Leith announced in January that she would be stepping down following nine series on the show.

Ahead of the new series premiere next month, audiences have been given a glimpse of Lawson in her new role alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood and co-presenters Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

A trailer released on Tuesday begins with celebrity chef Hollywood, dressed in a light blue shirt and holding a fork, approaching the camera to say: "Go on then."

He is joined by comedian Fielding, wearing one of his signature eccentric and brightly-coloured shirts, who intercepts Hollywood with a fork of his own, adding: "Not so fast, blue eyes."

"Oh, ladies first," This Morning presenter Hammond exclaims, stepping into frame looking glamorous in a vibrant, patterned dress while also holding a fork.

The trailer concludes as their new colleague Lawson is heard clearing her throat and pushing her way through the crowd, wearing a purple zip-through jumpsuit as she makes a beeline for the camera with her fork.

A graphic on screen appeared saying “the bake is back” over a brightly-coloured and flashing background.

Filming is complete on the series, which will air from next month.

Lawson was pictured alongside her co-stars for the first time earlier this month on her first day of filming in the Bake Off tent.

She had said in a social media post that she was “a bit nervous, very excited, and extremely happy” ahead of her debut, but has “loved every minute”.

One of the most recognisable faces on TV, Lawson became a household name in the late 1990s with her hugely successful cookbooks and cookery shows.

The Oxford graduate worked as a journalist before becoming a food writer, having produced multiple bestselling cookery books including How To Be A Domestic Goddess, which won her the British Book Award for author of the year in 2001.

TV work followed, starting with the Channel 4 show Nigella Bites, before she crossed over to ITV and then the BBC.
