PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Vice-President Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has reminded over 30,000 party delegates to exercise their right to vote wisely in the upcoming party polls, warning against surrendering that power to pressure or inducement.
Speaking during the southern leg of the party’s Jelajah Hiruk tour on Tuesday at New York Hotel in Johor Bharu yesterday, he said that the right to vote belongs solely to the delegates and must not be compromised by personal or political interests.
"People can call you in the middle of the night and campaign in all sorts of ways, but in the end, the decision is ours. The vote is secret, and it belongs to us.
"So I hope we use that power. Don’t sell your vote cheaply, because this will determine our future,” he said.
Jelajah Hiruk is a nationwide tour aimed at reaffirming PKR’s commitment to its reformist roots, particularly as the party governs at the federal level.
Nik Nazmi stressed that the internal polls were not merely about leadership positions but a critical moment of preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16).
"This vote, this election – I’m not denying the merit of PKR Vice-President Nurul Izzah Anwar.
"I, Rafizi and Nurul Izzah have been comrades since I joined the party over 20 years ago. But at this moment, I believe the best combination to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is with Rafizi Ramli,” he said.
He pointed to the successful ascent of Anwar as prime minister in 2022 as the result of Rafizi’s effective partnership during a period when PKR was at one of its lowest ebbs following state election setbacks.
Nik Nazmi also pledged that he and other senior leaders, including Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (Tok Min), would continue working diligently if returned to their posts—not for personal gain, but in service of the party’s reform mission.
"God willing, with Tok Min, those of us entrusted with Cabinet roles will continue to work hard if given renewed confidence.
"Not just for positions or power, but so that the reform agenda we promised the people can be realised,” he added. - May 21, 2025
