As internal party elections draw nearer, PKR Vice President Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has officially confirmed his candidacy to retain the position for the 2025–2028 term, outlining three key agendas he believes will reinforce the party’s foundations and future direction.
Nik Nazmi, who also serves as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, shared his intentions through a statement on Thursday, pledging continued efforts to uplift the party through strategic and people-focused initiatives. Central to his campaign is the commitment to develop young leadership via the Keadilan Fellows programme, which aims to groom a new generation of capable and principled individuals for public service.
In addition to youth development, he highlighted the need to strengthen PKR’s internal cadre system and enhance political education among its members. According to him, fostering a disciplined and ideologically grounded base is essential to uphold the party’s reformist spirit.
A third focus in his bid is to ensure that the party’s election machinery is fully prepared for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16). Organising at the grassroots level and gearing up for national challenges, he suggested, is not just tactical but crucial for sustaining PKR’s relevance in a competitive political landscape.
Despite his recent defeat in the race for the Setiawangsa PKR branch chief position, Nik Nazmi affirmed that his commitment to the party remains undeterred. Describing himself as someone who places the party’s interests above personal gain, he framed the upcoming election not merely as an internal contest but as a broader responsibility to preserve the values of Reformasi—ideals that have long defined the party’s struggle.
He appealed to members for their trust and support, pointing out that credibility and integrity in leadership are more vital now than ever. In his words, leadership within PKR should be about “serving the people,” and not simply about holding positions of influence.
Nik Nazmi is not the only figure seeking to hold onto a vice-presidential post. Others who have declared their intentions to contest include Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun—making it a competitive race among seasoned leaders with shared party loyalties but distinct priorities.
