SANDAKAN: Nine people were injured after a van and a Perodua Axia collided in Kampung Segaliud, Jalan Bukit Garam, Kinabatangan, early Saturday.

Six victims were in the van while the other three in the Axia.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call on the incident about 12.34am via the MERS 999 and despatched six members from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station, led by Operations Officer Jerry John, to the location 16km away from the station.

One of the victims trapped in the Axia was successfully extricated by the firemen and received initial treatment by a medical officer at the scene.

Seven victims were sent to the hospital in a civilian vehicle before the arrival of the fire department, while the other two boarded an ambulance to receive further treatment at a nearby hospital.
