Nine rescued in Semporna after boat capsizes

SEMPORNA: Nine passengers, including three children, were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department after their boat capsized in Pulau Tobo-Tobo waters, here, Monday.

It was learnt that the boat was heading towards Pulau Sumandeh when it sank after being hit by strong waves.

A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the department received a distress call at 3.45pm.

A team of personnel from Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat (BBP) Air Semporna rushed to the scene in a Kevlar boat.

All of the victims were transferred to the department’s Kevlar boat before they were sent to their respective homes in Pulau Sumandeh.
