Nine Rotary clubs to organise blood drive

Kota Kinabalu: Nine Rotary clubs here are joining hands to organise its annual event of Rotary Service Day through a blood donation drive at Suria Sabah Shopping mall, this coming Saturday.

They are also organising another event which is a fellowship dinner at Hakka hall, Likas Bay on Feb 26 in conjunction with World Understanding and Peace Day celebration on Feb 23.

The nine clubs are Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu, Rotary Club of KK Pearl, Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu South, Rotary Club of KK Mandarin, Rotary Club of Likas Bay, Rotary Club of Tanjung Aru, Rotary Club of Penampang, Rotary Club of Luyang, and Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera.

Rotary Club of KK Mandarin will take the reins on the blood donation drive on Feb 18 while Rotary Club of KK Pearl is responsible organising the fellowship dinner (Feb 26).

Rotary Club of KK Mandarin President Simon Ting said they are working together with the Women and Children Hospital Likas and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Hospital for the blood donation campaign to help replenish blood supply in hospitals.

“The blood donation drive would be held at second floor of Suria Sabah Shopping mall from 10am until 5pm.

“Members of the public are invited, especially regular blood donors, as we are targeting to collect 300 pints of blood that day,” he said in a press conference at Zara’s Boutiqie Hotel here, last Saturday.

Simon said there would also be health screening, cervical cancer awareness drive and counselling service for those who wish to quit smoking.

Meanwhile, Rotary Club of KK Pearl President Datuk Aminah Ambrose said the fellowship dinner, themed “All we need is peace”, is organised to bring a message of peace to Rotarians and to have deeper understanding of fellowships among the clubs.

She said each of the nine clubs here will have a presentation the meaning of peace to them at the dinner that will attract some 200 Rotarians from Sabah including guests.

She said this time district 3310 of Rotary consisting of Sabah, Sarawak. Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Melaka and Johor are celebrating the Rotary Service Day and organising events in their respective countries.

Also present were Past District Governor Philip Chong Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera president Chaw Zie Der, Immediate Past President of Rotary Club of Likas Bay Audrey Koh, Assistant Governor of Group 13 Kapitan Eliza Goh, Assistant Governor of Group 14 C.P. Lim, and Rotary Club of Kinabalu Sutera president-elect Roger.
