ALOR SETAR, Oct 10 — Stagnant floodwaters in Kedah left 19 people from six families still housed at a temporary relief centre in the Kota Setar district.

Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) assistant director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said all evacuees are sheltering at Sekolah Kebangsaan Langgar here, which has been operating since last Sunday.

“The flood victims remain at the relief centre as floodwaters have yet to recede fully due to stagnant flooding. However, the number of those affected continued to drop to 19 from 107 yesterday,” he said in a statement today.

He said the water level at Sungai Janing, Padang Terap, stood at 26.17 metres, exceeding the warning level of 26 metres. Meanwhile, Sungai Pendang in Pendang recorded 2.21 metres, slightly above the alert level of 2.2 metres, and Sungai Ketil in Baling measured 59.7 metres, surpassing the alert threshold of 59.4 metres. — Bernama
