Nintendo and Sony Pictures started developing a live-action feature film based on the popular The Legend of Zelda franchise back in 2023. Fans were undoubtedly excited about it, as this meant the opportunity to experience the fantasy epic on the big screen for the first time.
Initially, no star cast was revealed, and the movie does not even have a proper name yet. However, the groundbreaking success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has gotten fans excited about the Zelda project. They hope that this movie will be as good as the big-screen outing of the popular platform siblings.
Now, after more than a year of speculation and rumours, we finally have the names of the actors who will be playing the lead role in The Legend of Zelda movie. Keep scrolling to learn about them.
‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie lead actors revealed
Recently, legendary video game creator Shigeru Miyamoto addressed his fans and revealed to them the names of the actors who will be playing Link and Zelda in the upcoming movie.
It only makes sense for Nintendo to let him deliver this news to his fans, given the fact that he is the creator of Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and many other famous Nintendo first-party franchises.
In an official X post, he revealed that Bo Bragason, who was last seen in King and Conqueror, will be playing Princess Zelda, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, the actor who played the titular character in Robert Zemeckis’s Pinocchio, will be playing Link.

Nintendo and Sony Pictures decided to go with two little-known faces for these characters, and it makes sense. Sometimes, new actors with a clean slate are the perfect way to help viewers relate to such characters who have never been seen in live action before.
As for the other characters, there is no confirmation on them yet — we are expecting to hear more about the rest of the cast sometime in 2026. However, we already know that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball will be at the helm of this movie, and Shigeru Miyamoto will be producing it, along with Borderlands movie producer Avi Arad.
‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie release date
Now that The Legend of Zelda movie’s cast is out, one might wonder when they can watch it. This upcoming fantasy action film is scheduled to be released on 7 May 2027, suggesting we have a long way to go before we hear anything else about it.
Maybe we will get the first The Legend of Zelda movie trailer by the end of 2025. Until then, the Nintendo Switch 2 editions of recent Zelda games should keep you occupied.
