No action, so Papar padi fields flooded

PAPAR: Dozens of farmers in this area are asking the authorities to repair ditches in rice fields that have not been serviced for a long time as this causing flooding in the fields.

Head of the paddy field block in Kg Limbahau, Julian Jimmy @ Uli, 43, said he had made many complaints about this matter to the District Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS), but no action had been taken yet.

“We have repeatedly complained about the problem of ditches for draining water from rice fields that are not properly and regularly maintained.

“The situation worsened until approximately 30 farming families experienced flooding in our rice fields.

“Recently there was an alert through WhatsApp about maintenance work to be carried out. The contractor was asked to start work in addition to the tender for the maintenance work in Sg Livagu in the near future.

“But what is disappointing is that the flood has already happened. We have been asking for the upgrade of the ditch for a long time, but the reason was that there is no provision.

“What can be seen now are promises that have not been fulfilled and the people here, especially farmers, are tired of the empty promises,” he stressed.

According to Julian, some houses was also flooded.
