“No cinemas in Kelantan” – M’sian Takes Flight from Kota Bharu Just to Watch Local Film ‘Sherif’ in Nilai

Local film “Sheriff: Narko Integriti” by director Syafiq Yusoff has taken the Malaysian film industry by storm, winning praises from critics and moviegoers alike, as well as garnering a whopping RM16.3 million at the box office in just 4 days.

In fact, the film is so popular that a Malaysian woman recently shared how she took a flight from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and took a car to Nilai just so that she could watch the movie in the cinema.

Posting on her TikTok account, the woman, @tunasyieka shared that given that there are no cinemas in the whole state of Kelantan, she went to Nilai, which is near KLIA, just to watch Sheriff with her friends.

In the video, @tuansyieka shared her journey from the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu to a cinema hall at a mall in Nilai watching the local film with her friends.

In the caption, she wrote,

“From Kelantan to Nilai just for ‘Sheriff’. No problem bruh No cinema, no problem, just make sure you have money ”

Some Malaysians are shocked that Kelantan has no cinemas

In the comments, many Malaysians were shocked that there are no movie theatres in Kelantan, to the point that the state’s residents such as @tuansyieka had to travel outside the state to watch a movie in the cinema.

One commenter urged for the Kelantan State Government to allow for a cinema to be built in the state and questioned how long they will be prohibiting movie theatres in the state.

Another commenter echoed the same sentiment, urging for Kelantan to emulate Terengganu and allow for movie theatres.
