'No coalition government, BN will govern alone if it wins Johor' - Onn Hafiz

JOHOR Barisan Nasional chairman, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi today said BN will not form a coalition with any party if it wins the upcoming state election.

“This is our stand, and we will remain by it,” he said at the announcement of BN candidates for the 15th Johor state election.

On May 16, the caretaker Menteri Besar said Johor BN would contest all 56 seats in the election.

“I know we have been criticised for our decision not to work with certain parties, but that is our stand.

“I stress again that we are not rejecting any community and Johor BN is committed to representing the interests of all,” he said.

During the launch of Johor BN’s election machinery, he declared that he would rather forgo political office than “sit at the same table” with DAP, adding that BN would not work with the party if given a fresh mandate in Johor.

Onn Hafiz’s remarks attracted scrutiny because they contrast with the cooperation between BN and DAP at the federal level, although Johor BN has maintained that its political decisions are determined independently.

“Our decision not to cooperate with DAP is based on differences in approach and ideology.

“If voters continue to trust in BN, the coalition would govern Johor independently and not enter into any coalition arrangement with other political parties in the state,” he said.

He also urged all BN candidates to view their nominations as a responsibility rather than a privilege.

“As for the voters, I urge you to judge us based on our track records and our future aims, especially in line with the Maju Johor 2030 agenda,” he added. – June 24, 2026
