KOTA KINABALU: Forensic pathologist Dr Jessie Hiu told the Coroner's Court on Wednesday that toxicology analysis found no common drugs in the liver sample of Zara Qairina Mahathir.
She said the tests were carried out at the Department of Chemistry laboratory, which confirmed the absence of such substances.
However, Dr Hiu added that phenytoin, an anti-seizure medication often prescribed for epilepsy, was detected in Zara’s kidney tissue.
She explained that the drug is also given as a preventive treatment in cases of severe traumatic brain injury to reduce the risk of early seizures.
During the post-mortem, Hiu said she collected samples from several organs and tissues for DNA profiling and toxicology, which were handed to the police together with official documentation for forensic examination.
