No-contest motion for Umno’s top two posts draws mixed reactions from gallery

KUALA LUMPUR – A TikTok video of an Umno delegate who introduced a motion for the top two party posts to not be contested saw him drawing jeers from certain segments of the gallery.

The Negri Sembilan delegate, Mohd Shukri Samsudin, had proposed the motion earlier today during a closed door proceeding of the annual general assembly.

However, there were some among the delegates who could be heard cheering him on, drawing the perception that the hall remained divided over the motion.

The video, which was posted on the TikTok account Reform Umno, garnered 613 views at the time of writing.

Shukri’s motion was then supported by Marang Umno division chief Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku.

This, however, contradicts an earlier statement by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir that no such motion was tabled to the delegates today.

However, Zambry said unless there is a private motion moved by any of the delegates during the proceeding suggesting as such, this ultimately means that the positions of president and deputy president will be up for grabs when Umno heads into its internal election soon.

“However, we leave it to the delegates, because at the end of the day, they are the ones who will debate the motions and decide whether to support them or not,” Zambry said, here, today. – The Vibes, January 13, 2023
