PENAMPANG: There was no evidence of a kidnapping attempt at a shopping centre here, according to the police.

Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said they received a report on Thursday about a youngster allegedly grabbed by the arm by an unidentified person while walking through a store on Wednesday (Dec 6).

According to the report, the complainant was at a store browsing for jewellery when one of her three children, who was behind her, suddenly screamed. She then discovered that an unidentified woman was standing close to her child.

However, subsequent police interrogation of the complainant revealed no evidence of the crime implied by an individual who shared a post on social media regarding an alleged attempt to kidnap a child.

In light of this, Sammy urged the public to refrain from sharing or disseminating unverified information that could lead to misunderstandings and jeopardise public safety.
