No Filipino seafarers were hurt in the latest attacks on two vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, with both ships able to continue sailing after the incidents, Malacañang said on Monday.
Citing the report submitted by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro noted that the Philippine government is continuing its close monitoring of the situation.
“No one was hurt from the 21 Filipino crew, including the vessel's captain. The vessel remains seaworthy and continues its voyage,” she said in Filipino, referring to the all-Filipino manned MV Ever Lovely.
The ship is expected to dock in Singapore on July 5, she added.
Castro said that the Panama-flagged oil tanker Kiku was also attacked while transiting the waterway. All 19 Filipino sailors onboard were unscathed.
“The authorities are monitoring the condition of the vessel and the passengers and are contacting the Filipino crew in case they need onboard psychosocial assistance,” she said.
To date, 85 ships with more than 2,000 Filipino seafarers onboard have traversed the Strait of Hormuz, while around 3,800 sailors remain on ships in the Persian Gulf, Castro said.
