Despite its apology following the Jalur Gemilang error, a group of Bumiputera rights activists from Wira Perkasa Malaysia gathered outside Sin Chew Daily’s headquarters in PJ yesterday morning (April 18) to send a message.
Apology NOT accepted
“We, Wira Perkasa Malaysia, reject the apology. Tiada maaf bagimu! (No forgiveness for you).”
During the gathering, Perkasa Youth Chief Zool Amali Hussin, also known as Bozz Jebat, said that not only is Sin Chew’s apology not accepted, but Perkasa also wanted both editors, who were recently questioned by PDRM, to be sacked from the newspaper outlet for the Malaysian flag blunder, reported 8TV News.
“We want this company to fire both editors!”
Bozz Jebat also made it clear what the organisation would do if Sin Chew did not fire the editors mentioned.
“If the editors stay, we will urge the government and the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) to suspend the licence of the publication.”
“This clearly tarnishes the image of Malaysia,” Bozz Jebat said.
“If you don’t understand the Malaysian flag, get out of Malaysia!”
Perkasa had filed another police report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters to demand an investigation into the alleged act of “insulting and defaming national sovereignty” through the act of “removing” the crescent symbol on the Jalur Gemilang, which signifies Islam as the federal religion.
Bozz Jebat said at the gathering that he wanted to be “a teacher” for the day to educate the editorial team about what the crescent on Jalur Gemilang means.
“There’s no point in being a Malaysian citizen but not knowing the meaning behind Jalur Gemilang.”
Perkasa’s Head of Information, Irwan Fahmi Ideris, claimed that this was not the first time a newspaper had published illustrations that were considered insulting to Islam.
“Even a Standard One student knows the Malaysian flag. I am very sure the editors reviewed the content before publishing it. I refused to think it was unintentional. We don’t want to hear it.”
When asked if the suspension of the outlet’s licence is unfair to other employees, Bozz Jebat insisted that it is an appropriate measure for the government to take to teach the newspaper employees a lesson.
At the moment, Sin Chew Daily has suspended the editors mentioned from duties until the investigation is complete.
