Kota Kinabalu: The formation of a “Borneo Bloc” in parliament can be achieved when Sabah has the same wavelength with Sarawak (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) to work together in fighting and defending Borneo rights and interests, said Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He said it is important for the people in Sabah to decide whether they have the same kind of wavelength when they say that they work for Sabah.
“Sarawak has been doing it. If Sarawak can do that and Sabah also can do that, I think the (formation of) Borneo Bloc can be realised.
“They (Sarawak/GPS) prefer a local-based party who have the same kind wavelength and same kind of interest on Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
“If Sabah people vote a local party with a strong mandate, I’m sure and I think the Sarawak people (GPS) will definitely and willingly talk to us.”
Shafie who is a former chief minister said this to reporters during a ‘Kupi-Kupi’ Program with Warisan candidate for Kota Kinabalu Amanda Yeo, at a coffee shop.
On whether Warisan would have some kind of deal with GPS to form such “Borneo Bloc”, Shafie said Warisan doesn’t have any formal kind indication yet.
“I can read their mind…I think we can work closely with them, we can. I am not saying that we have,” he said.
On a claim by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leader Datuk Christina Liew that Shafie was fabricating stories, Shafie said he did not tell lies.
“I am not lying. I told her (Christina) can you tell your leaders like Wan Azizah and whoever in PKR to fight whatever promises they have done to fulfil,” Shafie said.
