No hurry to decide, says Hajiji

PENAMPANG: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the suggestion to follow Sarawak and not refer to Sabah as a “state” in line with the principle of being equal partners will be considered later.

"That is the suggestion. We will think about it later,” he said when approached by reporters at the Persatuan Guru Besar Malaysia Negeri Sabah 2nd General Conference and Convention at the ITCC Ballroom, Thursday.

The suggestion was by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan who plans to bring it to the Sabah Cabinet.

On Usno President Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia’s suggestion for GRS to contest all 73 seats in the coming Sabah election, Hajiji said no decision had been made yet.

“The best approach is for us to collaborate in our thinking about Sabah’s future, with the goal of fostering continued development and unity,” he said.

On whether the GRS-PH coalition is good to continue, Hajiji said “Yes, it is good. If possible, we combine with other parties so that we can build Sabah together.”

On whether this includes Parti Warisan he said “We will think about it because we haven’t made a decision yet.”

On school discipline, Hajiji dismissed concerns about schools concealing crimes as isolated incidents.

“No, I think even if there is, it is an isolated matter,” he said when asked about the commitment of schools in maintaining discipline in view of police citing instances of schools that choose to keep quiet when there is a crime in the school.

“I think the Education Department and the schools is responsible in ensuring safety and all negative things will not happen in the school.

“We should not have a negative attitude towards schools or the Education Department,” he said.

Hajiji praised the education convention as a valuable platform for headmasters and educators to improve Sabah’s education system.

He said allocations have been provided to Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and additional requests would be considered and refined by the Education Exco and Department.

Hajiji did not specify the amount of allocation requested but said that they would discuss it later, considering input from both the Education Department and the Headmasters Association.
