Kota Kinabalu: The open court process for the inquest in finding the cause of the death Zara Qairina Mahathir, is important in order to seek the real truth without any interference, said Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) Chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar.
Zulkarnain who was present in court as to show support for the process to seek justice for Zara, said the inquest was important because everything would be revealed during the inquest hearing.
“If there is an attempt to hide the truth, it will be revealed in court.
“If there are parties trying to cover something up, they will pay the price. But based on the available information, there is indeed none,” he said.
According to Zulkarnain, he, together with the G57 team, had initially prepared a team of lawyers to monitor the inquest to ensure that any weaknesses in the investigation could be identified.
“Our team of lawyers is ready and even though there are also teams from Kuala Lumpur who want to come to Sabah, but there are legal constraints.
“Our role is to monitor and seek justice,” he said.
He also blamed certain quarters for allegedly attempting to create confusion regarding the case.
“They are trying to create perceptions even though we have explained many times. However, it is up to the people to judge for themselves. I am confident the inquest will reveal the truth,” he said.
Zulkarnain also rejected allegations that there was VVIP involvement in the case based on his personal investigation.
“I already conducted a personal investigation including secret recordings to obtain confirmation.
“If it is true that there are influential people involved, we will not hesitate to expose them. But based on my personal investigation, there is none. The allegation is merely a game by certain quarters,” he said when met the Media after the proceedings on Monday.
According to him, the real weakness lay in the procedural aspects at the beginning, including matters of post-mortem and the initial investigation procedures.
Zulkarnain stressed that he is not a member of any political party, but was present solely out of concern for Zara’s case, which he considered as if she were his own child.
“This is about a life, not politics. I myself contacted Zara’s mother to express our support,” he said.
