KPT is tracking Malaysian students in Indonesia amid worsening Kalimantan haze, with no health impact reported so far, says Minister Zambry Abd Kadir.

KUALA LUMPUR: There have been no reports of Malaysian students affected in terms of health due to haze in Indonesia so far, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

He said the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) will continue to monitor the situation of Malaysian students studying in that country through the Education Malaysia (EM) office there.

“Until now, there have been no reports related to health severity despite the serious haze conditions there,” he said to reporters during a visit to the Media Lounge in conjunction with the UMNO 2026 General Assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre here today.

Zambry also said that the EM in Indonesia will also continue to inform the KPT about the developments regarding the haze situation and any effects it may have on Malaysian students.

“What I have been able to learn so far depends on the policies or the operations of the respective universities.

“If those universities have serious problems, then the respective university might be closed and it will also involve our students,” he added.

The haze situation in Indonesia has previously been reported to be worsening, particularly in Kalimantan, following forest and peatland fires.

Indonesia is also intensifying efforts to address the fires and enhancing coordination with neighbouring countries through the ASEAN mechanism to tackle cross-border haze issues.
