Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry confirms no Malaysian citizens were affected by the recent security incidents across the southern border provinces of Thailand.
KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysian nationals have been reported affected by a recent spate of security incidents reported across the southern border provinces of Thailand – Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat – on the night of Aug 22, 2026, according to Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry.
In a media advisory on the security situation in the provinces on Sunday, the ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said it was closely monitoring the situation and would provide updates if required.
“Local security forces have heightened surveillance and security measures across the affected areas, including imposing temporary curfews,” it said.
Wisma Putra said the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla were maintaining close contact with local authorities to monitor developments and safeguard the well-being of Malaysian citizens in the region.
“Malaysians residing in, travelling through, or intending to travel to and from the southern border provinces of Thailand are strongly advised to exercise heightened caution, remain vigilant, and strictly observe all safety advisories, curfews, and security instructions implemented by local authorities,” it said.
To facilitate timely communication and consular support, Wisma Putra said Malaysians are urged to register and regularly update their contact details via the e-Konsular portal.
