KUALA LUMPUR - No Malaysians were on board the Air India plane that crashed near Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, which has so far claimed 30 lives.
Wisma Putra in a statement said the Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai had confirmed that no Malaysians were on board the aircraft.
“The ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if necessary,” said the ministry’s communication and public diplomacy division in a statement.
According to Reuters, at least 30 people were killed. Reuters, which cited authorities said Local police officers said the plane cashed in a residential area near the airport.
"The building on which it has crashed is a doctors' hostel… we have cleared almost 70% to 80% of the area and will clear the rest soon," the news agency quoted a senior police officer as telling the reporters.
The plane, which was en route to London Gatwick airport with more than 240 passengers onboard crashed shortly after takeoff.
State Police Control Room said the aircraft crashed near Forensic Cross Road in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad.
According to the Times of India, the Air India aircraft was a Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft, with the capacity of 300 passengers. - June 12, 2025
