
Kota Kinabalu: The death sentence for a 46-year-old man who murdered a nine-year-old schoolgirl in Tebobon 20 years ago was upheld by the Federal Court, here, Monday.
The three-member panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli and Federal Court Judge Datuk Abu Bakar Jais denied Jamaluddin Saripudin’s application to commute his death sentence under the Revision of the Sentence of Death and Imprisonment for Natural Life (Temporary Jurisdiction of the Federal Court) Act enacted last year.
The justices in their unanimous decision, dismissed Jamaluddin’s application and maintained the death sentence imposed on him.
Jamaluddin murdered the girl Haserawati Sarioi @ Saridi, 9, between 7am and 8am on Jan 8, 2004 at the bushy area on a hill slope near a road in Kampung Ratau, Tebobon, Menggatal.
