In recent news, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has once again stressed that his government is committed to fighting corruption, which he sees as a major hurdle to attracting foreign investments in Malaysia.

In an interview with CNBC, Anwar said that getting rid of corruption and boosting governance are important for the country’s economic growth.

“We need to put an end to corruption”

Anwar elaborated on the pressing need to save Malaysia, emphasising that the root cause of the country’s challenges lies in poor governance and pervasive systemic corruption.

CNBC news report added that Anwar highlighted how both local and foreign investors are looking for stability and transparency, which are super important for building trust.

“Without trust and confidence, big investments just won’t happen. Unless they involve corrupt arrangements, then that’s something we need to put a stop to. Thankfully, some of those corrupt practices have already been dealt with,” Anwar added.

“I’d go after them without any mercy”

Anwar explained that while they’re still on the mission, he suggested that when it comes to tackling systemic issues, the fight against corruption needs to be in full swing.

When CNBC asked Anwar if the government is going too fast and hard on fighting corruption, he replied that if it were up to him, he’d go after them without holding back.

He also stressed that,

“If we keep being too slow and ineffective, the country would never be saved. I really think we’ve made enough progress to say that this mission is definitely going to keep going.”
