Barisan Nasional (BN) has acknowledged that it is now easier to explain its electoral cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to voters compared to its previous alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH). BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said voter reception to the cooperation has been very positive throughout the campaign period.
"We have received a much better response from voters in this election compared to the last one, and we hope that support will be reflected at the ballot box on August 1," he said.
Mohamad made the remarks while speaking to reporters during the Youth Rantau Closed Penalty Shootout Meet-and-Greet held at the Prima Housing Field in Bandar Ekar on Sunday.
He said the campaign machinery has been operating smoothly, with party workers carrying out their responsibilities in an organized manner while engaging with as many voters as possible.
"We are not facing many questions from the public. Our campaign teams are functioning well, and everyone is focused on reaching out to voters," he said.
According to Mohamad, the tactical understanding between BN and PN has made it easier for Malay voters to make their electoral choice because there is no longer direct competition between major Malay-based parties, as seen in previous elections.
He said this arrangement also helps prevent vote splitting, which had previously benefited rival parties.
"In the past, it was more difficult for BN to explain our political position to voters. That is why we established this tactical understanding to face the state election," he said.
"Malay voters, in particular, want to see unity among Malay-based parties instead of contests against one another, because previously they were divided in making their choice."
The Rantau state assembly candidate acknowledged that the BN-PN understanding has provided the coalition with a slight advantage heading into the election. Mohamad also dismissed claims that the cooperation has caused concern among non-Malay voters.
He pointed out that UMNO-BN remains the largest party within the alliance, contesting 25 seats, while PAS is contesting only five seats, with the remaining six seats being contested by other parties, including non-Malay component parties.
"There is no reason for non-Malay voters to be worried. Claims that the BN-PN understanding is meant to frighten non-Malay voters are simply propaganda from the opposing side," he said.
Mohamad also highlighted BN's election manifesto, themed "Revitalising Negeri Sembilan" (Hebatkan Semula Negeri Sembilan), saying it was formulated based on the experience and governing track record of previous BN administrations. He said the manifesto is not merely a collection of new promises but focuses on continuing initiatives that had previously been implemented.
"This is not a manifesto filled with sweet promises. It is a commitment to resume the work that was left unfinished," he said.
