Anwar urges Malaysians to remain vigilant but not panic as the government monitors global security threats and ensures adequate supplies of food and medicine.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been urged to remain vigilant but not panic as the government continues to monitor escalating global security threats, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said government departments and agencies were working to ensure adequate supplies of essential goods, including food and medicine, amid growing international uncertainties.
Anwar added that some countries had chosen not to disclose the situation to avoid causing public anxiety, while residents in several nations, including those in Asean, had become concerned and started stockpiling essential items.
“The government therefore believes it is better to explain the situation openly in the Dewan Rakyat so that the people are aware of the developments.
“There is no need to panic. All departments and agencies have been working to ensure adequate supplies of medicine, food and other essentials,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He added that the country’s cybersecurity, digital and technological systems were also being closely monitored, with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) participating in discussions coordinated by the National Security Council (MKN).
Anwar also urged members of the public to immediately report any suspected intrusions or disruptions involving digital and technological systems.
He cautioned that panic could undermine the country’s preparedness, noting that although some countries had convened emergency meetings, Malaysia’s discussions yesterday had not reached that stage.
“However, should the situation become urgent, I will convene a Cabinet meeting immediately rather than wait until Friday,” he said, adding that the government was monitoring developments on a daily basis.
