Deputy Speaker Ramli Mohd Nor says no documents or instructions received regarding the position of Opposition Leader in the Dewan Rakyat.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor said his office has not received any documents or instructions regarding the position of Opposition Leader.

He was responding to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who raised the matter after the question-and-answer session.

“So far, even though I am here and this question has been raised by the Honourable Member while I was chairing the session, it concerns the basic structure of the Dewan Rakyat, namely the issue of the Opposition Leader,” Ramli said.

He confirmed that no written proposal from the opposition indicating a vacancy had been received.

Rayer had referred to Standing Order 4A(4), which states any doubt over the position shall be decided by the Speaker.

The issue follows the sacking of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and 16 other Bersatu leaders by the party’s Disciplinary Board.

Perikatan Nasional deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said discussions are ongoing regarding appointing a new Opposition Leader.

Meanwhile, Ramli reprimanded MPs for raising issues that cause friction among members, especially during Ramadan.

“When raising an issue, go straight to the matter at hand. We do not want to waste time in this House,” he said.

He reminded members that time in the Dewan is for discussing matters of public interest.
