No one above law: alleged rapist cop under probe, minister assures

KUALA LUMPUR – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman has assured that “no one is above the law” after a 16-year-old girl in Alor Star claimed that she was raped by a police inspector.

The incident allegedly occurred when the teenager went to a police station to file a report on December 28 on another allegation of rape involving her stepfather.

Azalina, who is in charge of law and institutional reform, said that there are unique processes to deal with child witnesses, particularly those who have been sexually abused.

“I take this case seriously and wish to emphasise that there is a specific procedure for dealing with child witnesses.

“This covers the Evidence of Child Witness Act of 2007 as well as the Comprehensive Guidelines for Conducting Sexual Crime Cases Against Children," she said in a tweet today.

She stressed that “no one is above the law” under the guidelines that should be followed when processing the issue.

Previously, Harian Metro reported the teenager made a report on December 31 claiming that the alleged rape happened in the office of the police officer at a district police headquarters at about 6.30pm.

The alleged incident occurred when the victim was called by the 30-year-old inspector to assist the investigation into another alleged rape of the girl by her stepfather.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has confirmed that the inspector has been arrested and placed under investigation. – The Vibes, January 3, 2023
