A massive gathering of Sikh organisations, gurdwara management committees, and Panthic groups was held on Saturday at Gurdwara Shaheedan, Feruman, Dholewal Chowk, to oppose the Punjab government’s newly enacted law on sacrilege. The meeting was presided over by Jathedar Hira Singh Gabbaria and attended by prominent Sikh leaders, saints, Nihang groups, and social organisations.

Addressing the congregation, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht declared that the Sikh community does not accept the government’s sacrilege law. He said that Panthic issues must be resolved only through the supreme religious seat, Akal Takht, in accordance with Sikh tradition. “No decision of the Sikh panth can be taken in the Vidhan Sabha.

The Sikh nation has always recognised Akal Takht as supreme and whatever decision emanates from there is accepted by Sikhs worldwide,” he said.

The Jathedar warned the Punjab government against ignoring the authority of the Akal Takht.

“Governments come and go, but those who bow before the Akal Takht, find their rule blessed. History from the Mughal era to the present day stands testimony. Punjab’s rulers must not compel Akal Takht to take a stern decision,” he cautioned.

He further announced that a Panthic conference will be held on Sunday at Baba Bakala, where the next course of action against the “black law” will be decided.

The gathering resolved that Sikh organisations across Ludhiana will abide by every directive issued from the Akal Takht and will continue to guard the sanctity of the supreme institution until the Punjab government amends the law in line with the Akal Takht’s guidance.
