The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has firmly denied any external influence in its ongoing investigation into former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki clarified that the probe was launched solely based on complaints and intelligence received by the agency, with no directives from any political party or individual.

Speaking at a press conference, Azam stressed that the MACC remains committed to conducting its investigations with professionalism and impartiality, regardless of the subject’s status or political background.

We investigate professionally and fairly, without regard to any rank or position. There were no instructions from anyone. We acted on our own, based on the information and complaints we received, he stated.

The investigation revolves around allegations of corruption and money laundering related to the funding and promotional activities of the Keluarga Malaysia program. The former prime minister is being investigated under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Prevention of Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Azam emphasized that the MACC’s probe is not confined to just the Keluarga Malaysia project but extends to any individuals who may have benefited financially from the scheme.

Regarding this matter, it's not just about the project in question (Malaysian Families) but also anyone who benefits," he said.

Meanwhile, Azam refuted speculation that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s former Chief Private Secretary, Datuk Nazimah Hashim, had fled the country to avoid questioning. He confirmed that Nazimah remains in Malaysia and has already provided a statement to investigators.

“She is in the country, and we have already recorded her statement,” Azam said.

The case has attracted widespread public attention, with many awaiting the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s findings. If substantial evidence is found, legal proceedings could follow, further shaping the dynamic political landscape of Malaysia.
