SANDAKAN: Sandakan Zone Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Malaysian Maritime) detained a small cargo boat carrying goods without a valid permit in the waters off Berhala Island, last Saturday.
Sandakan Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Muhamad Suhairy Hussaid, said a 33-year-old local was detained.
Further inspections on the boat then found two barrels of LPG gas, 180 litres of petrol filled in plastic oil drums of various sizes, 16 packets of cooking oil of one kilogram each, 12 packets of sugar weighing 1kg each and seven packets of rice weighing 10kg each.
“These subsidised goods are suspected to be shipped to Taganak Island, Philippines.”

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
