KUALA LUMPUR – There is no “Plan B” if Pakatan Harapan (PH) decides not to accept Muda as a coalition member, the party’s president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman told a radio programme today.
Speaking on BFM’s The Breakfast Grille, he said should Muda be rejected, the party’s position will be discussed again by its executive leadership.
“Muda as a truly democratic party, if there is a rejection, I'll bring it back to Muda exco. But again, my priority is to move Malaysia forward and with that in mind it is really to debate the alternative vision for Malaysia,” he told BFM.
Asked if there was a Plan B, he answered: “There is no Plan B.”
“In the end, I do not want to be the only one determining the future path of Muda,” he added, in reference to bringing the matter back to the Muda leadership.
Muda has been facing objections, notably from PKR, in its bid to formally join PH ahead of the 15th general election.
State PKR youth chiefs have reportedly submitted a letter to their president and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urging him not to admit the fledgling party.
Some PKR leaders had also told Syed Saddiq he must declare support for Anwar as PH’s prime ministerial candidate as one of the conditions to join the coalition.
Syed Saddiq, who is the Muar MP, today said he had “no reservations” about Anwar being PH’s sole candidate for prime minister.
“I hold no reservations at all but one thing I’ve learnt is that it’s better to announce it as a team, than for me to unilaterally announce it. There are no reservations, I’ve great respect for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”
Syed Saddiq added that all matters regarding the coalition’s policy, leadership and prime ministerial candidate are to be finalised within the PH presidential council, which is deciding on Muda’s application.
He said he had informed his stand on Anwar’s prime minister candidacy to the PH negotiation council tasked with studying Muda’s admission, as well as to individual PH leaders.
He also believed a positive announcement will be made on Muda’s admission “very soon”. – The Vibes, October 5, 2022
