No policy change on SUV eligibility for e-hailing, says Loke

THE Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has never issued any directive or statement restricting the use of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for e-hailing registration purposes.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke, in a statement, said there had been no policy changes regarding the eligibility of vehicle types for e-hailing services.

“All vehicles that meet the technical requirements and have seating capacities of between four and 11 passengers are eligible to be considered for e-hailing operator (EHO) licensing,” he said.

The statement was issued to clarify recent media reports that had caused confusion over the eligibility of SUVs for e-hailing registration.

Loke said the ministry understood the concerns raised among e-hailing drivers and operators and assured that the registration process would continue as usual in accordance with existing rules and guidelines.

Recent reports had claimed that SUV-type vehicles were no longer permitted to register for e-hailing services. - October 7, 2025
