KUALA LUMPUR – There is no evidence to suggest political elements are involved in the disappearance of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh, police said, as investigations continue with no new leads.
“So far, we do not see any indication pointing in that direction (involvement of politicians),” said Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, as quoted by Bernama.
He said 47 individuals have had their statements recorded, including three of Pamela’s children and a close friend in Singapore. The remainder were interviewed in Malaysia.
“All statements to assist investigations have been recorded but there are no (new) leads at this time,” he told reporters after the Inspector-General of Police Media Appreciation Ceremony 2025 in Bukit Aman today.
Rusdi also confirmed that no financial activity was detected in Pamela’s bank accounts that would suggest transactions to other individuals.
Asked about speculation involving her husband, he said investigations are ongoing and cover all parties close to the 42-year-old woman.
Initial attempts to remand her husband under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code were rejected by the court, Rusdi said, as there was no necessity given his cooperation.
"At first, we wanted to remand her husband under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code but the application was rejected. So, we used the full 24-hour period of detention to conduct our investigation," he said.
Checks revealed that Pamela last contacted her child in Singapore the day before she was reported missing.
Responding to claims that she may have applied for citizenship in another country, Rusdi said police are unable to confirm the matter as it is considered a personal application.
Pamela was reported missing on April 9 while reportedly en route to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya via an e-hailing vehicle. A police report was lodged at 3.02pm on the same day. - May 26, 2025
