SHAH ALAM, March 4 — Noting the current high cost of living, the state government has given its commitment to maintain the prices of goods being sold at the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme.

State executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim said this is in line with the administration’s intention of alleviating the burden of the people, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

“Recently, there has indeed been an issue of inflation. We also conducted a review of the JER initiative, but the state government intends to maintain the old prices until a future date.

“For the moment, there won’t be a price hike and we want to ensure the rakyat benefit from this programme, particularly as we approach Ramadan and Aidilfitri,” he said after officiating the Kota Raja Madani Agriculture Festival 2024 at Wisma Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Bhd (Kohijrah), here, yesterday.

According to Izham, the state government will also increase the frequency of the affordable sales programme during these months to meet public demand.

“We will discuss the location but that is not an issue. What’s important is we increase the frequency,” he said.

JER, which is managed by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), offers standard chicken at RM10 each, fresh solid meat at RM10 per pack, Grade B eggs at RM10 per tray, mackerel fish at RM6 per pack, 5kg cooking oil at RM25 per bottle, and 5kg rice at RM13 per pack.

This year, the sales programme is expected to be held at 46 locations, benefitting over 120,000 people.

In addition, PKPS has partnered with Segi Fresh to expand its reach to local residents, with the supermarket appointed to implement the JER programme, including the provision of sales and logistics locations, at 55 of its premises.
