The Kremlin said on Tuesday it was unaware of any proposal for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The possibility of a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France was not discussed during a phone call between Putin and US President Donald Trump on Sunday, Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said.

Asked whether such a meeting would be possible, Ushakov gave an evasive response.

"No one has approached us with such a proposal," he said.

Zelensky first proposed a meeting with Putin in early June in an open letter ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, suggesting they meet on neutral ground. Putin rejected the offer and called the letter "rude."

Zelensky later said that, in coordination with the G7 group of leading industrialized democracies, Moscow had been offered a meeting in France, which the Kremlin also rejected.

As a result, Zelensky said he discussed the possibility of a direct meeting with Putin in the US during a subsequent phone call with Trump.

Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for more than four years. Although the conflict has increasingly reached a military stalemate in recent months, Moscow continues to demand territorial concessions as a condition for peace.
