Parliament sits continuously without recess as 40 MPs prepare to scrutinise the Tabung Haji RCI report’s findings and reforms.
PETALING JAYA: The special Dewan Rakyat sitting on Aug 11 to debate the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji will proceed without a recess, with at least 40 MPs expected to participate in the debate.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was informed that the Dewan Rakyat Speaker had agreed for the sitting to be conducted continuously to allow lawmakers sufficient time to deliberate on the report’s findings.
“The Speaker has agreed that this sitting will be held continuously without a recess and, at this point, it is estimated that between 35 and 40 MPs have expressed their readiness and interest to debate the issue,” he said during his post-Cabinet press conference today.
The special sitting was among the matters discussed during the Cabinet meeting, as lawmakers prepare to scrutinise the findings of the RCI report on Tabung Haji.
The debate is expected to provide MPs with an opportunity to discuss the commission’s findings and recommendations concerning the governance, management and future reforms of the pilgrimage fund.
Fahmi said the government welcomed the parliamentary debate, adding that the public would be able to follow the proceedings through official live broadcasts.
